Anduril, Meta’s Data Empire to Exacerbate Next-Generation Warfare

Meta couldn’t wait to announce that it would be working with Anduril in order to offer new AI in defense industry.

As May comes to an end, Meta’s Zuckerberg couldn’t wait to announce the company would be working with defense company, Anduril Industries, to offer a new AI in defense industry service for soldiers in the military and US allies, that involves augmented reality (AR) and AI software.

Zuckerberg began his journey by connecting people with each other on his platform through sharing posts and memories. Today, Zuckerberg is working on connecting the US soldiers to the battlefields using AI for defense and intelligence to help them wreak more destructive havoc in the world.

“Meta has spent the last decade building AI and AR to enable the computing platform of the future,” Zuckerberg said, “We’re proud to partner with Anduril to help bring these technologies to the American servicemembers that protect our interests at home and abroad.”

Using the platforms terminology, US soldiers will be receiving a ‘boost’ from Facebook. In fact, even Anduril CEO Palmer Luckey, stated that the partnership between the two companies is a needed tech ‘boost’ for the AI company with department of defense clearance.

“Of all the areas where dual-use technology can make a difference for America, this is the one I am most excited about,” Luckey said.

Since its launch in 2017, Anduril distinguished itself from traditional defense and security AI solutions firms, like Boeing and Lockheed, by casting its self-funded model of product production, by building autonomous, unmanned weapons that employ AI to detect and fire at targets independently.

Meta’s Unpredictable AI in Defense Industry Moves

Mark Zuckerberg’s surprising semi-pivot into military technology is another attempt for CEO to repair ties with President Donald Trump. Zuckerberg has rolled back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies and donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration.

Earlier this year, Trump friend Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), was appointed to Meta’s board. White is also a close friend of Zuckerberg’s, who has embraced martial arts as a new passion.

Meta’s work on AI companies with defense clearance military technology seems to align with a goal the company set last year, when Nick Clegg, president of global affairs, stated that Meta aims to have “an active role in the debates that any administration needs to have about maintaining America’s leadership in the technological sphere.”

The enormous amounts of personal and behavioral data Meta have accumulated over time ranging from user interests to social relationships and geospatial tracking are blending into a strategic asset as part of the department of defense AI strategy.

All this data smart is fueling AI in defense industry systems that can replicate human behavior, predict threats, and make battlefield decisions, giving the military a cyber advantage drawn from decades of commercial tech innovation.
