On February 17, Germany automotive giant unmasked its electric BMW M3 Vision Driving Experience prototype, featuring the ‘Heart of Joy’ control unit, with drivetrain, braking, and energy recuperation integration, as well as steering for better efficiency and reduced traditional brake usage, according to The Verge.

The new BMW M3 2027 demonstrator has advanced regenerative braking technology that could sharply reduce the use of traditional brake discs, with improved energy efficiency and driving range.

M3 electric BMW is estimated to incorporate an innovative system that could allow “98 percent of drivers” to drive nearly exclusively with regenerative braking, maintaining wear on traditional brakes to a minimum.

“We are making further efficiency gains, and hence increasing range, as in the future the driver will be braking almost solely with energy regeneration,” BMW’s Research and Development Head, Frank Weber explained.

In a media release, BMW said that “integrated drivetrain, braking and energy recuperation control allows energy to be used more sustainably … 98 per cent of drivers do not need to make any inputs using the conventional brakes.”

Next-Generation Electric BMW M3 to Come with 1000kW Output

Though not officially confirmed as the electric BMW M3, the Vision Driving Experience is rumored to be a hint at its future. Speculation suggests the BMW M3 electric car could produce up to 1000kW of power and handle 18,000Nm of torque, competing with the top electric hypercars.

The platform is shared with BMW’s next-gen Neue Klasse electric architecture, with which it debuts in the iX3 SUV in 2025 and will then power a fully electric 3 Series in 2026. It will also enable the next-generation electric 2027 BMW M3, along with a separate petrol-powered sibling featuring enhanced combustion technology.

The new BMW M3 electricfeatures an internal computer system said to be 10 times faster than current technology. The new BMW M3 electric also integrates simulated engine sounds and gear shifts to hold onto the dynamic nature of drive of high-powered BMW models.

BMW electric M3 is setting the benchmark for an electric age with regards to performance, efficiency, and driver engagement in introducing these technologies.
