OnlyFans to ban sexually explicit content starting October
U.K.-based subscription service OnlyFans announced on Thursday its plans to ban sexually explicit content starting October.
The platform enables creators to post different range of content and charge subscribers a monthly fee, however, it is best known for pornographic content.
While the company will still allow their adult-content creators to post nude photographs and videos as permitted by their updated guidelines, explicit pornographic material will be banned on the site
OnlyFans’ new policies prohibit creators from sharing actual or simulated sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, between persons of any sex.
Additionally, posting actual or simulated masturbation is forbidden.
The company stressed that display of genitals of any person which is extreme, or offensive is not allowed.
Furthermore, the new rules ban users from creating or publishing content related to actual or simulated material portraying bodily fluids commonly secreted during sexual conduct.
Notably, other sections of the policy that ban deepfakes, drugs, or violence, remain unchanged. OnlyFans urged its users to remove any sexually explicit content before December 1st.
The company warned creators their accounts will be subject to suspension or termination, and access to their earnings will be revoked, if their new rules are broken.
It is worth noting that OnlyFans site has grown during the COVID-19 pandemic and contain currently 130 million users; a number attributed to the high number of sex workers who use the platform to generate income.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said in a statement.
