US Military Deploys AI to Eliminate Life Threatening Risks

The Army is integrating AI in military applications to protect soldiers – not replace – by deploying robots for high-stake tasks.

The Army is integrating AI in military applications to protect soldiers – not replace – by deploying robots for high-stake tasks like clearing structures and deploying roadblocks, in respect to human decision-making, General James Rainey announced on Tuesday, at the McAleese Defense Conference.

The AI applications in military will reduce battlefield injuries and damage without replacing human soldiers through a collab between AI and military personnel. The advantageous aspect of using AI for dangerous missions means the army will push safety and efficiency, in respect to the rule of strategic control in warfare.

“The real art of the deal is going to be: how do you figure out how to integrate them into formations in a way that optimizes the advantages? I’m talking about no blood through first contact,” said Rainey during the Conference.

The Army’s priority is to prepare for AI use in the military ahead of the Global War on Terror, guaranteeing soldiers, gear, and technology are ready for modern warfare on land, air, and online.

“The proper combination of humans and machines” could allow Army units to be lighter, more mobile, and cheaper to fight and sustain in combat while giving soldiers the freedom to think and make “values-based” decisions, Rainey said.

AI in Military Logistics with Zero Ethicality

For the past 20 years, drones changed air warfare by taking on the job of scouting and precision strike while keeping the pilots safe, according to Rainey. Now the Army seeks something similar that would ease the stress of ground combat, and whatever that solution is, it must be “cheap and mass,” or “expensive and exquisite,” says Rainey.

Meaning, it must be modernized and sophisticated and far short of total defeated, or low-cost enough to be purchased in large numbers. Those two limits define the priorities responsible for AI in military intelligence.

“And we’re trying to avoid spending most of our money on the 80 percent in between, that are neither explicit nor cheap, right?” the General added.

Embodiment of AI in War

The Army’s use of AI is not just about overpowering opponents, it’s about minimizing human casualties on all sides. By integrating AI robots in military operations, the military aims to handle high-risk tasks without putting soldiers directly in harm’s way.

AI-enabled wargaming in the military decision making process plays an important role in improving strategies that prioritize both efficiency and ethics, with the approach of AI in military applications shifting the warfare strategy, where technology is not just used for control but also wargaming in alliance with morality, with the hope of reducing battlefield death risks.
