Eutelsat, one of the world’s leading satellite operators, today announces that for the first time, anyone in the UK unable to access terrestrial broadband connectivity through traditional means can now enjoy superfast satellite broadband, no matter where they live, via the Eutelsat next-generation KONNECT satellite.
The new fast, affordable service is provided by Eutelsat’s new direct operation, which, like the satellite, is also called konnect. Konnect offers packages specifically tailored to the needs of individuals, small businesses and institutions currently operating beyond the reach of fibre.
Konnect is a new Internet Service Provider(ISP) which offers fixed broadband access services, currently up to 100Mbps. The service is available now in the UK through a growing network of channel partners. It is also available in other European countries, Africa and Russia.
James Soames, Marketing Director konnect Europe said, “Connecting reliably to broadband, particularly in rural areas, has been a real pain point for internet users in the UK including those who can’t access services from terrestrial networks. With the huge switch to working from home this year, this kind of fast, affordable and easily available service is needed more than ever. This new launch offers connectivity for everyone to superfast broadband packages wherever you live. Itopens up exciting new opportunities for anyone struggling to achieve a reliable internet connection, whether for business or pleasure.”
Benefits of konnect include:
- High speed – Superfast speeds from 30 Mbps up to 100Mbps
- Quality – Video streaming up to full HD quality
- Unlimited – Unlimited internet packages/data plans for everyday use (web-browsing, instant messaging, social networking, online banking, music and video streaming).
- Affordable – Pricing, close to terrestrial technologies, starting from £29.99 per month including VAT with a 12 month commitment
- All inclusive package – Rental of the equipment is included in the monthly internet service price (there is no need for an external Wi-Fi router – the Wi-Fi is built-in with the small HT2000W modem)
- Free standard installation – Standard installation is carried out by a professional installer and included in the service price
Konnect packages :
- konnect Easy, offering up to 20 GB of data usage and speeds of up to 30 Mbps
- konnect Zen, offering up to 60 GB of data usage and speeds of up to 50 Mbps
- konnect Max, offering up to 120 GB of data usage and speeds of up to 100 Mbps.
The unlimited data plans address the needs of individuals, households, small businesses, schools and other institutions, ensuring those situated beyond the scope of traditional networks can enjoy fiber-like speeds. Average sign-up time is 10 days including time to complete the installation.

About Eutelsat Satellites
Eutelsat Communications has a global fleet of satellites and associated ground infrastructure, which enable customers across video, data, government, fixed and mobile broadband markets to communicate effectively irrespective of location.
Eutelsat’s recent acquisition of BigBlu, Europe’s leading distributor of satellite broadband, has been instrumental in bringing Konnect to market. Konnect’s multi-channel strategy encompasses online distribution, telesales in Europe, multiple channel partners and retail stores.
The new-generation Eutelsat KONNECT Throughput Satellite at the 7° East orbital position was launched from an Ariane rocket on 16 January 2020 and will gradually ramp up with 80% of the capacity in service by year-end 2020 and 100% by March 2021.Thesatellite islocated at 36 000 km from Earth.
Eutelsat KONNECT is an all-electric satellite, built by Thales Alenia Space. It is the first to use Thales Alenia Space’s new Spacebus Neo platform. With 75 Gbps of capacity across a network of 65 spot-beams, it delivers resources for broadband services and sets a new benchmark for flexibility in High Throughput Satellites leading to optimised fill rates. Eutelsat KONNECT has a cost-per-sellable Gbps substantially lower than for existing in-orbit assets. It offersa full Ka-Band High-Throughput System over Europe. Its optimized design leverages state-of the art satellite technologies, allowing higher throughput over regions with higher broadband satellite demand.
It also offers wide coverage, including over maritime and low-density territories for B2B services to industry verticals, and for maritime and aero broadband. In addition, it enables operations at scale through the higher overall capacity provided by the satellite and higher capacity available over a given country or region. This allows KONNECT to allocate dynamically more capacity anywhere in the region and whenever demand is higher.
