Four East African countries connecting all Tigo Pesa customers

Tigo Peza customers are now able to connect to all major East African Mobile Money services, through a service launched by Tigo Tanzani, Kenya’s M-PESA, MTN and Airtel Rwanda, and MTN Uganda, customers can now send and receive money across borders with no interruptions.

Acting Chief Officer for Mobile Financial Services at Tigo Tanzania, Angelica Pesha, stated that the new service would extend the benefits of mobile money to cross-border trade. This would facilitate money transfer for both families and businesses. The partnership, according to Pesha, further establishes Tigo Tanzania’s position as the go-to provider of mobile financial services in the region.

By simply dialing the number *150*01# Tigo Pesa customers are able to send money to different services across the East African countries.

At the forefront of these financial services are MTN Uganda, who bring their expertise in financial pioneering and innovation to the table with applications such as loans, micro savings, and insurance and merchant payments through MoMoPay

Stephan Mutana, General Manager Mobile Financial Services of MTN Uganda, says that the ability to transfer and trade funds across East African borders is a testament to their goals of reliable, secure and affordable financial services. With services like Tigo Pesa, Mobile money is becoming increasingly borderless.

Jidia Gasana Head of Airtel Money remarks that while receiving money through Tigo Tanzania is a free transaction, sending money to Tigo Tanzania, Airtel Money customers must dial *500*1*3# and follow the given prompts.

This partnership between MTN, Safaricom, Airtel and Tigo Tanzania enables companies to meet the growing demand for cross-border transactions, and now Tigo Pesa customers can send and receive funds to Airtel Money, TPesa, Halopesa, EzyPesa, and MPesa just as easily as they could with other Tigo Pesa users.

To send money to the different services, M-PESA customers can dial *840# on their mobile phones or through mySafaricom App by selecting the “M-PESA Global” option under “M-PESA” then selecting “send”.
