
On March 6, California State Senator Jerry McNerney introduced SB7 and AI and employment law, the “No Robo Bosses Act,” mandating human control of AI in the workplace.
The AI in employment law made it clear that no matter how far AI in workforces is trying to dehumanize jobs, it can never continue at the same place. By guaranteeing humans remain in charge of decision-making, California prioritizes fairness and workplace dignity.
The AI employment law reinforces human control of keeping workers central to the workforce and not their machines taking over managerial positions.
“Businesses are increasingly using AI to boost efficiency and productivity in the workplace. But there are currently no safeguards to prevent machines from unjustly or illegally impacting workers’ livelihoods and working conditions,” McNerney said, adding that “AI must remain a tool controlled by humans, not the other way around.”
AI and Employment Law Balance
While AI boosts productivity and efficiency, it’s a challenge the human dignity of work. Automation eases tasks by minimizing human labor, if not used ethically used. The future of work needs to balance the power of AI in hiring while still maintaining the added value of human inputs to the task.
AI cannot replicate human emotion, empathy, or creativity – qualities necessary for decision making and leadership. It’s important that we allow AI and labor unions to support human employees, rather than replacing them, in order for technology to aid human ability rather than overshadowing it.

If AI starts threatening livelihoods, then the employment law and AI regulation isn’t just a sensible, it’s necessary. The more advanced AI becomes, the greater the chances it might replace jobs, perhaps interfering with employee’s income as well, as regulation isn’t stabilizing innovation, it’s ensuring that AI is for the good of humanity and not the opposite.
The human element is key for infusing AI with a taste of creativity, decision-making, and emotional intelligence. Humans fasten AI’s development, and through regulation, we can ensure AI assists and complements human capabilities and not replace them.
Through this, we can create a future where humans and AI coexist with one another, making progress in the world without job loss and creating more opportunities. It’s a win-win situation for workers and tech too and all thanks to the AI and employment law.
