Thinking of Cheating with AI? Cluely Startup Has You Covered

After securing a $5.3 million in funding from Abstract Ventures and Susa Ventures, AI startup, Cluely, is in the spotlight for its tools

After securing a $5.3 million in funding from Abstract Ventures and Susa Ventures, AI startup, Cluely, is in the spotlight for its tools that assist and show how AI cheats with job interviews and technical inconveniences, with some labeling it as an “AI-authorized cheating,” according to the TechCrunch

Cluely’s founders, Roy Lee and Neel Shanmugam transformed Lee’s suspended engineering interview into Cluely, a platform for using AI to cheat. The founders argue that their technology simply “democratizes access” to competitive opportunities.

Critics was quick to condemn Lee and Shanmugam’s creation of using AI to cheat as an unethical shortcut, but the founders maintain that they’re channeling AI to level the playing field in high-stakes scenarios, such as tech hiring, where candidates face unrealistic expectations.

A Long Road Toward Creation

Lee’s path to Cluely’s recent win was not easy.

The Columbia University student was suspended for creating a computer program that has an AI cheat software meant to help users cheat on engineering job interviews. The program would give the answers to technical questions, the most difficult barriers to interviewees for highly competitive jobs.

Lee and Shanmugam continued, until turning their original cheating AI tool into a developed AI startup, with a purpose to invest in AI’s power to simplify difficult matters, even if it is labeled as AI cheats.

Is Using AI Cheating?

The introduction of AI-based cheating tools like Cluely’s has created debates on whether it’s just a matter of gaining knowledge or stepping into unethical grounds.

With the fine line between human work and AI support blurring, there is a need to examine how AI cheat software affects the workplace. AI cheats four times with game-changing potential, but with technology like this, it’s less about AI cheaters and more about how society will impose the rules from now on. As the debate continues to fuel, Cluely’s AI cheater success highlights an extremely significant point. The AI cheat machine is changing the way we approach work, as well as challenging conservative concepts of what is fair play is.

AI is generally considered a blessing for the ability to automate processes, increase efficiency, and create new innovations. However, many consider it a curse since it can lead to increased inequality. The ethical concerns that come with using AI to cheat also make its impacts complex. Eventually, whether or not AI will be a blessing, or a curse will depend on how it is regulated and integrated into society
