Google Lens Has Now an AI- Powered Video Search

Google Lens is adding a new AI-powered video recording feature allowing users to capture short videos of objects or places and perform web searches with Google’s Gemini AI.

Back in May, Google Lens was announced at Google I/O, this new feature uses the power of Google’s Gemini AI model for enhanced search. The update will also integrate AI Overviews-a tool to process the content of the video and provide answers. While it will be only available in regions that support AI-powered search.

When first launched, Google Lens was an image-based search, enabling users to take photos, along with translating texts, solving math problems, or even identify objects, such as plants and flowers. These features are somehow helpful, but have key limitations, mainly in finding moving objects or more detailed questions about a certain item.

The new video recording feature aims to enhance the limitations. Now, users are allowed to record short clips-a little less than 20 seconds in length-and ask questions through voice prompts.

Powered by Gemini, Google Lens analyzes the video captured and responds to the query the user has raised.

The new video search feature is activated when users open Google Lens, switch to Search mode, and hold down the capture button to start recording. In that short video, users can ask their questions out loud about the object or scene they are filming.

Once that AI-powered video has been captured, it is processed via Google Lens while the Gemini-powered AI Overviews take over to analyze the content. It can recognize moving objects, identify colors, shapes, and even materials.

The feature reportedly described correctly moving objects and included lots of details about their characteristics when tested. The results, which usually include a summary of what AI has detected, show up in just a few seconds.

The new feature is a huge step toward improving the functions of Google Lens, adding to its core feature of fixed image searches. Users now have more flexibility in the execution of their searches-performing everything from recognizing the type of wood used to make a table to identifying a bird flying.

Paving the Way for More AI Integrations

The Integration of Gemini’s AI further enhances this altogether in making searches quicker and more accurate. With this update being available to more users, Google Lens could turn out to be a significant tool for real-time, visually based prompts.

This new AI-powered video search feature is the latest addition to a growing list of AI-powered capabilities Google has introduced lately, such as Gemini’s smart replies in Gmail to memory recaps in Google Photos.

As the technology continues to evolve, the integration might expand into more spaces and bring even more AI capabilities that could be integrated in daily life tasks to streamline processes in various fields
