On June 23, SpaceX cursor acquisition announced to continue with the all-stock deal that is estimated at $60 billion, as a result of the acquisition, the AI software company based in San Francisco is going to be included in the business of SpaceX to enhance software development.
This transaction may be considered one of the largest SpaceX AI acquisition in the technology sector this year. With this acquisition, SpaceX is trying to make faster software development and automate more processes in digital systems used for such initiatives as Starlink and future space exploration projects.
AI Coding Technology to Power SpaceX Engineering
According to a Form 8 K filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the all-stock transaction values Cursor at an implied equity value of $60 billion. After completion of this process, a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary will be merged with Anysphere Cursor, enabling the AI firm to continue its operations under the same brand name but as a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX.
The shareholders of Cursor will be entitled to receive SpaceX Class A common stock, considering the seven-day volume weighed average of the share price. SpaceX’s acquisition of Cursor is planned to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.
SpaceX first announced in April that it had secured the right to acquire Cursor or pay $10 billion to continue working with the company. A regulatory filing released Tuesday confirmed that the transaction will now move ahead following SpaceX’s successful debut on Wall Street last week.
Since launching in 2022, Cursor has become one of the most recognized AI software platforms for developers. The Cursor AI coding assistant helps programmers write, edit and improve code faster by using artificial intelligence to suggest changes, solve problems and automate repetitive programming tasks.
The company also helped popularize the growing trend known as vibe coding, where AI plays a much larger role in software development. As these AI coding tools become more advanced, developers are increasingly relying on them to speed up projects while reducing manual work.
Competition Grows with SpaceX Cursor Acquisition
The SpaceX Cursor acquisition reflects the fierce competition taking place across the AI industry. Cursor competes with coding assistants such as Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex while also building its technology through partnerships with larger AI research companies.
When the planned acquisition was first announced, Cursor said the partnership with SpaceX subsidiary xAI would allow it to develop future AI products using xAI’s massive AI data center complex, Colossus, located in Memphis, Tennessee.
Cursor’s Composer feature, combined with Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model, played an important role in the rise of “vibe coding.” The term was first used in early 2025 after an AI researcher experimented with the tools while working on personal software projects.
The SpaceX Cursor acquisition comes only days after SpaceX became a publicly traded company. Investor confidence has remained strong, with the company’s shares climbing to another 9% before trading opened on Tuesday.
Industry insiders are convinced that the acquisition will help enhance the capabilities of SpaceX artificial intelligence technology through integration of innovative software and engineering expertise of the company. This might result in accelerated software development and effective management of the satellite network and systems for future aerospace applications.
In addition to the acquisition, the broadband sector is also investigating the way how AI can be helpful in improving network operation. These initiatives will be presented in the panel “AI in Action: Enhancing the Resident and Support Experience” at the Broadband Communities Summit 2026 on August 26.
The panel will include key executives of RealPage, Apartment SEO and RUCKUS Networks who will discuss the transition of AI technology from experiments to routine business operations.
