On Tuesday, Austin-based robotics company, Apptornik announced a collaboration with global supply chain and manufacturing leader, Jabil, to introduce the very first form of robots in manufacturing themselves, the Apollo robot.
The capacity of advanced robotics in manufacturing themselves follows Apptronik’s $350 million Series A funding to scale Apollo production as Apptronik’s second major pilot, after its March 2024 collaboration with Mercedez-Benz – Apollo was tested on factory floors.
It’s worth noting that while still in the pilot phase, Apptronik is focused in refining Apollo’s industrial ability.
Robots in Manufacturing Partnership
Under the partnership, Jabil will test the Apollo robot in real-world manufacturing while supporting its production. Once commercial viability is confirmed, Jabil will begin the application of robotics in manufacturing themselves in own plants, advancing robotics in manufacturing and allowing Apollo to participate in its own self production.
For now, Apollo will handle simple tasks like sorting and controlling parts on the factory floor, building a foundation for broader industrial uses. Apollo’s performance at Jabil factories will assess whether robots in manufacturing can progress to autonomously generating their own systems.
The Future of Robotics in Manufacturing Themselves
The market for AI and robotics in manufacturing, is expanding, signaling a bright future ahead, and with that the advantages of robotics in manufacturing themselves are showing up.
Apptronik’s Jabil collaboration, as well as its funding and strategic alliances, positions the company as a leader. The expectations of humanoid robots being able to manufacture and sustain themselves are years away, yet the industry continues to elevate slowly toward this dream.
Apptronik’s experience positions it as a leader in competing with big companies like Boston Dynamics, Agility Robotics, Figure, and Tesla. With the continuous promises and development of advanced robots with Apptronik and other robotic companies, the future of robotics in manufacturing seems a transformative era for the industry.
