Apple has introduced its latest devices’ satellite capabilities to be integrated into the iMessage app in the upcoming iOS 18 update.

The latest iOS feature enables users to send and receive text, emojis, as well as Tapbacks on iMessage and SMS without the need for a traditional internet connection, ensuring communications are maintained even in areas where cellular or Wi-Fi coverage is not available.

New iMessage Features

During its conference, the iPhone parent introduced during the event other various updates to iMessage, as users will soon be able to schedule messages, adding another layer of convenience and flexibility.

iMessage will also support Tapbacks with any emojis, which offers users more ways to react and interact within their conversations, by choosing from a set of reactions, such as thumbs up, heart, and laughter instead of typing.

The app is also expected to introduce new message effects, such as animations to enhance the visual appeal and overall experience of texting. In addition, iMessage will have a significant upgrade in terms of formatting options, with the new features allowing users to bold, underline, strikethrough, and italicize text.

Security with iOS 18 Update

In another move that aligns with the industry’s standards, Apple is integrating Rich Communication Services (RCS) support to iMessage. This technology is a communication protocol that aims to enhance traditional SMS by integrating advanced features such as, high-resolution photo sharing, read receipts, and group chats.

This update enables users to enjoy more advanced messaging   such as reading receipts, typing indicators, and enhanced media sharing, making communication richer and more interactive.

Despite making this huge step in AI, the iPhone maker gives a high priority to users’ privacy with iOS 18 update adding new security features. One notable addition is the requirement for authentication to access individual apps. This strengthens user data protection and ensures that only authorized individuals can use specific applications.
