Luna Oculus’s AI features for Cyclists’ Safety

Luna Systems announced that it will be launch of Luna Oculus, an AI-based rear-view camera that add another safety layer for cyclists.

Irish company, Luna Systems announced that it will be launch of Luna Oculus, an AI-based rear-view camera that add another safety layer for cyclists.

This new AI device enhances safety by providing real-time alerts to cyclists about the traffic around them, avoiding the occurrence of accidents, similar to the one used in cars recently.

Let’s Talk Functionality

The Luna Oculus camera functions in a similar way to a dash cam of a car as it records rear-view footage continuously as the cyclist rides. From its part, the cyclist can access the footage through the camera’s connection to a mobile application.

According to the AI vision company, the main goal of this camera is to provide cyclists with safety technologies.

However, it is worth mentioning that Luna Oculus is not just a recording device for traffic. This camera includes AI features that makes it able to detect vehicles that are coming too close to the cyclist, and instantly sends both audio and visual alerts on the app, helping in the prevention of accidents.

Users can also customize these alerts on the app by identifying “warning zones”, they think might cause them safety concerns due to previous incidents, so users are managing these alerts in a way that suits their comfort levels.

According to a demo video released by the company, for now the alerts include a beeping noise and red lights that will appear on the screen, though Luna systems stated that it will do some improvements on the interface before the official launch of the device.

The app tracks any close encounters with vehicles, which are then mapped to help cyclists to take safer routes and avoid dangerous areas. These nearby incidents can also be shared with other cyclists using the app, which enhances community safety and offers valuable data to city planners so they can consider cyclists’ safety needs.

In a similar advancement, earlier this year VeloAI introduced its Copilot rear light, which sends alerts and adjusts light intensity when vehicles are nearby.

The Luna Oculus device is expected to be launched on the 5th of June this year.
