One UI 6.1 to Bring AI Features to Older Samsung Devices
Samsung is integrating the One UI 6.1 update to its older Galaxy phones, adding the AI features of the S24 to the flagship devices of 2021 and 2022.
In a post on X, Taurn Vats and SamMobile announced the introduction of the update has started in Korea and is expected to cover other regions soon, and firstly India.
The devices that will be receiving the One UI 6.1 update include the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Meanwhile, the latest models, the S22 range and Z Fold 4 have a large amount of AI features like Live Translate, Circle to Search, Note Assist, and generative image editing.
According to SamMobile, the older devices, such as the Flip 3, Fold 3, as well as S21 series will only have the Circle to Search feature. While the Instant Slo Mo camera feature will not be included because older handsets may not have the processing power required.
It is true that adding some AI features to older devices is for the sake of Samsung users, in terms of enabling access to AI tools, but it also poses the risk of devaluating the newer ones.
To this end, Samsung might set a line for phones like the A55 and A35, which could still handle some AI features without having an impact on their performance.
The distribution of the updates, as well as the availability of features on some devices and not on others will prompt discussions regarding the company’s strategy related to AI. It could also lead to more questions related to the impact on the pricing and resale value.
In response to the update, some users of the S21 series are showing unsatisfaction for not having access to AI-powered image editing tools.
As for the One UI 6.1 update, it has other non-AI features, such as Quick Share, enhancements to the Samsung Find app, expanded options in Samsung Health, and customization improvements, providing added value beyond AI functionalities.
