Spotify, DDEX Team Up to Label AI-Generated Music

Spotify music app launched beta testing that uses AI music identifier technology to create playlists based on user’s tastes.

On January 22, Spotify launched the beta testing of its new prompted analysis in the US and Canada, featuring AI music identifier tech to create playlists based on user’s tastes, bringing a more personalized experience with AI suggestions.

AI playlist maker Spotify is bringing a vision to life, which is the music fans’ dream of a tool that remembers favorite tracks and puts them at the perfect moment. This is the perfect blend of advanced AI with a decade of listening history.

AI Music Identifier that Knows You

AI playlist maker Spotify lets users type requests for music, and AI assembles the playlist automatically. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström explained the feature in a blog post.

“You could ask for ‘music from my top artists from the last five years,’ then push it further with ‘and feature deep cuts I haven’t heard yet,’” Söderström wrote.

“Or you could request ‘high-energy pop and hip-hop for a 30-minute 5K run that keeps a steady pace before easing into relaxing songs for a cool-down,’ and layer on something like ‘include music from this year’s biggest films and most-talked-about TV shows that match my taste.’ You choose how broad or specific you want to go.”

The playlists are smart enough to use detailed listening history. Within minutes, Spotify can deliver exactly what users ask for, even offering options to update daily or weekly. This makes it more than just an AI music checker, turning playlists into personal archives of favorite songs.

Spotify’s head of personalization, Molly Holder, mentioned that the AI music identifier addresses a common user request, saying it’s “something we hear from users all the time is that they want more control… The next step was to make playlists more interactive.”

The AI music check feature helps users rediscover songs they might have forgotten.

Protecting Music with AI Labels

Spotify is currently embracing AI to enhance users’ listening experience all while fighting harmful uses. Recently, users asked for labels to identify AI-generated music, especially when low quality AI tracks appeared on playlists.

Spotify responded with new policies to protect both listeners and artists, including an AI music identifier for all uploaded tracks.

“Aggressively protecting against the worst parts of Gen AI is essential to enabling its potential for artists and producers,” the company wrote. Spotify introduces AI music detectors, spam filtering, AI disclosures, and better enforcement of impersonation violations, including AI voice cloning.

The platform also worked with the Digital Data Exchange (DDEX), a standards-setting organization in the music industry, to create a new average for AI disclosures in music credits. In practice, these updates allow AI music check systems to verify track authenticity. New tools, such as AI music copyright, ensure that artists receive proper credit for their work, for example, identifying if AI generated composition or vocals appear in a song.

“This standard gives artists and rights holders a way to clearly indicate where and how AI played a role in the creation of a track—whether that’s AI-generated vocals, instrumentation, or post-production,” Spotify explained in its press release, highlighting their responsibility in AI in music production, balancing innovation and trust.

Spotify also uses detailed AI music analyzer technology to monitor playlists and maintain quality through understanding rhythm, structure elements, and better music learning efficiency.

Once Spotify’s AI music detector systems are in place, listeners can enjoy a safer, smarter music experience. The music giant seeks to make music discovery more personal than ever before by fully integrating its AI music identifier technology across the platform.
