Recalling the ongoing workforce adjustments in the tech industry, the well-known social media platform TikTok job cuts has started a round of layoffs that will affect dozens of workers in its sales and advertising division. On Tuesday, a TikTok spokesperson confirmed the elimination of 60 positions, refraining from disclosing the specific reasons behind this workforce reduction.

The move is part of a strategic shift for TikTok, redirecting its focus towards specific industries such as fashion, beauty, and entertainment.Although the platform did not provide further details regarding the reasoning behind the job cuts, it did stress that impacted staff members are welcome to apply for other positions that are open within TikTok. Presently, the platform boasts over 120 similar job listings.

With more than 150 million users in the United States, ByteDance-owned TikTok is still a major force in the social media market. Its headquarters are in Beijing. The platform’s captivating short-form video content, which appeals especially to younger audiences, is a major factor in its popularity.

This reduction in workforce aligns with a broader trend observed in major tech companies throughout the year. Notable instances include Twitch, owned by Amazon, which recently announced plans to cut over 500 jobs as part of cost-cutting measures. Concurrently, Discord, another significant player, implemented a 17% reduction in its workforce, translating to approximately 170 employees, with the aim of enhancing workforce flexibility.
