Vodafone Idea Launches 5G Services in India

Vodafone Idea (Vi), announced the Vi 5G launch in select regions making its entry into the competitive 5G scene.

On Tuesday, Vodafone Idea (Vi), India’s third-largest telecom operator, announced the Vi 5G launch in select regions, making its entry into the competitive 5G scene.

The Vodafone Idea 5G network launch comes after rivals Airtel and Jio began offering 5G services.

Vi 5g Network Rollout

The Vi 5G launch date in India on December 17 via a tweet on X, stated that they are operational in specific locations with potential for broader rollout. Reports around the Vi 5G launch indicate the Vi 5G network is available in 17 licensed service areas across the country, though details on the soft launch remain unclear.

TelecomTalk reported that Vi 5g plans are available for prepaid and postpaid users. Prepaid users need the Rs 475 monthly plan, while postpaid users require the REDX 1101 plan to access 5G.

Technology Behind Vi’s 5G Network

The Vi 5G network uses Non-Standalone (NSA) technology, upgrading its 4G infrastructure to support 5G – more cost-effective compared to Standalone (SA) 5G, which requires a complete infrastructure overhaul.

In parallel, Airtel uses NSA technology for its 5G services, while Jio has deployed SA technology for its network.

NSA technology means certain smartphones, such as the Redmi A4 5G and the Poco C75 5G, which support only SA 5G, won’t be compatible with Vodafone idea 5G plans.

Vi’s 5G Expansion

The operator’s Vi 5G network rollout is still in its early stages, with plans for expanding the 5G service to more regions. The demand for high-speed internet is growing, and the Vi 5G launch is a key player in Vi’s efforts to regain market share and enhance user experience.

As Vi progresses with its 5G expansion, its ability to compete with Jio and Airtel’s nationwide 5G coverage remains to be seen. Vodafone idea 5G network launch is a step forward in India’s telecom evolution, and network operator’s 5G will contribute to India’s growing 5G ecosystem
