YouTube Launched a Voting Integrity Feature
YouTube has launched a YouTube election integrity feature, as the 2024 US election approaches to advance voter education, transparency, and fight misinformation.
The new tools will range from linking to official voting resources, broaden transparency for political candidates’ channels, and AI tags identifying synthetic media. It would arm viewers with actual information, while the platform will play a critical role in the delivery of free and fair elections.

YouTube prominently features “how to vote” reminders on its homepage and next to election-related searches in an effort to point users to vetted information about voting.
If a user searches for federal election candidates, YouTube will display information panels above the search results. The information panels will include information such as a candidate’s political party affiliation, links to their official YouTube channel, and a direct link to Google Search to research the candidate further.
“If a viewer searches for something related to a 2024 federal election candidate, an information panel will appear above the search results that highlight the candidate’s information. This could include their political party, a link to their official channel, and a click through to Google Search to learn more,” stated a YouTube spokesperson.
YouTube live election coverage is going to be showing real time poll data through Google’s election result feature once the election has completed.
Fighting Misinformation with AI Tags
Following the integrity of election content, YouTube voting information will heavily rely on AI tags that flag synthetic or manipulated media. Till this point, AI generated labels tests have taken place all over the world, including in advance of the European Parliamentary election, where about 40 million synthetic media labels have been shown across the European Union (EU).
YouTube election integritystated and confirmed that “these labeling efforts have been in effect for elections worldwide this year; for example, ahead of the European Parliamentary election in June, the altered or synthetic label was displayed more than 40 million times on videos across the EU.”
The effect of YouTube on presidential election will recommend content from authoritative news channels, especially during key election events, so users can easily access information from trusted sources. A homepage section in both English and Spanish will feature these sources’ live streams on Election Day.
