Chinese President Xi Jinping convened on February 17 a rare meeting with the Chine tech industry leading entrepreneurs, with the league including Alibaba’s Jack Ma and Huawei’s Ren Zhengfei to align their goals with that of Beijing’s resilience.
Ren ZhengfeiXi stated, according to the People’s Daily, that “the east wind is still prevailing,” quoting Chairman Mao Zedong’s statement, “The east wind is prevailing over the west wind.” This is a recap of Xi’s earlier remarks that “the East is rising and the West is declining.”
Responding, Ren Zhengfei, a symbol of China’s tech industry and its resilience, declared that concerns over the country’s ability to produce domestic chips and operating systems (OS) – the “heart and soul” of modern technology – are no longer valid nor applicable.
“I strongly believe that a stronger China is emerging at a faster pace,” said Zhengfei.
The confidence of China’s biggest tech companies and its leaders originates from the country’s fast technological progress in recent years. Despite American efforts to restrict China’s development, Beijing managed to achieve solidifying growth.
DeepSeek Disruptive Military Implications
DeepSeek’s success not only paved the way for a strong China tech industry but highlighted the possibility of any China tech threat to nations adopting technology in military applications.
For its affordable AI models, such as DeepSeek, the list of the China tech companies such as Tencent and Alibaba are increasing AI chips purchases, primarily from Nvidia, such as its H20, to power AI-driven applications.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is progressing AI-driven autonomous military vehicles and weaponry to modernize its forces and shift the global balance of power, but the road towards AI adoption for China is full of obstacles – US competition and internal Communist Party constraints.
Even though DeepSeek, Tencent, and Alibaba are contributing to Beijing’s “One China, One Economy, and One Industry” notion, it may struggle with its own “diffusion deficit” hindering the widespread implemetation of AI technology.
According to analysts at Goldman Sachs AI will not make much of a difference related to China’s 8% productivity growth but relative to the USA’s 15%. China tech companies in this case have to work with what its familiar with rather than risking the AI construction sector.
Amercian Plan B Against China Tech Industry
In response to the China tech high industry import and export corporation, the US has been more insistent in efforts to slow down the transfer of critical technologies. The Trump administration with efforts from officials and President Trump, have been pushing allies to limit semiconductor sales to China in an effort to restrict the nation’s AI development.
The US is also considering its own AI policies, with suggestions including protecting AI assets and counter espionage, to maintain superiority and the national security threats presented by the China high tech industry.
AI Evolution in Global Power
Changing AI competition between the China US tech marks a pressing moment in changing global concepts of power. Both countries are pouring money into AI development aimed at advancing economic development and military strength, with China’s speed of development threating the US supremacy.
As AI gains effectiveness, its role in national security and international relations will inevitably grow, forcing both countries to sail through harsh conditions filled ups and downs of technological innovation, ethical dilemmas, and geopolitical tensions. The tensions between the US and China tech industry, especially in AI, is distorting the dynamics of power in the world.
How far each country is willing to go to push its AI innovations on the world remains the key question, with complications for military principles and the stabilization of peace.
