Another Day Another US National Security Threat Claim Towards China

On Thursday, the Biden administration proposed a rule to restrict or have Chinese drones banned in the US, stating national security concerns.

On Thursday, the Biden administration proposed a rule to restrict or have Chinese drones banned in the US, stating national security concerns over potential data breaches, espionage, and sabotage, according to the New York Times.

The growing efforts by the US to secure its safety for technological advances aligns with policies scrutinizing foreign technologies following rising apprehensions about Chinese and Russian influence in domestic US market.

As much as drones are improving industries such as agriculture, construction, and emergency responses, their capabilities to collect and send data have set tongues wagging.

Peak of Inspection on Foreign Drones

The Commerce Department called the drones “undue or unacceptable risks” to US infrastructure and security, demanding private companies to respond to their definition of the rule, adding it will accept comments on the proposal “Proposed Rule on Mitigating Risks from Foreign Adversary Drones” through March 4.

“This represents an important action for the United States in minimizing vulnerabilities created by foreign adversaries,” said Commerce Secretary Gina M. Raimondo.

Raimondo continued to state that “as the National Security Strategy states, ensuring supply chains for unmanned aircraft systems remain secure is pertinent to our security.”

In the last few years, drones’ adoptions increased, branching into different sectors, with the most important ones being agriculture and emergencies, due to their advanced features, such as high-resolution cameras, AI, and the ability to gather data.

The notice period warned of possible risks, including drones’ usage to disable infrastructure, deliver payloads, or conduct surveillance of key sites. The Biden administration is also evaluating whether design requirements or enhanced cybersecurity could alleviate risks short on Chinese drones.

Inventions such as these have been creating fears that such tools could be used by an enemy for the US government or any government. The proposed rule in which lead to Chinese drones banned in the US is in high-tech products, including drones, software and communications infrastructure.

In September, the administration took steps to ban Chinese developed software in internet connected vehicles due to the potential for surveillance and other cybersecurity threats.

Rush Hour of Political Repercussions

With the growing security concerns, questions have been raised on the involvement of the power model of China in its technological innovations. Known for their peaceful cultural traditions, the current actions of Chinese firms under governmental influence stand in complete contrast.

This contrast leads to many questions that could be asked. Who’s really behind the design and intent of those drones? And how would their deadlines differ from the US equality? With national security concerns, highlight what is the advancing complexity of competing in technology in a geopolitically uncertain stage which is leading to the move of having Chinese drones banned in the US.
