Tesla Cybertruck Explosion Outside Trump Hotel in Las Vegas Raises Terrorism Concerns

Tesla Cybertruck exploding in Las Vegas turned heads only hours after a truck drove into a crowd in New Orleans killing 15 people.

On January 1, a Tesla Cybertruck exploding in Las Vegas outside the Trump International Hotel turned heads, only hours after a truck drove into a crowd in New Orleans on New Year’s Day killing 15 people.

Currently, the FBI is investigating whether the incident was a terrorist attack.

Cybertruck Explosion

The explosion happened in front of Trump Tower Las Vegas as the vehicle went up in a ball of flames, with the moment captured videos across various media. The Tesla Cybertruck was rented from Turo car-sharing and violently exploded to kill the driver inside it and injured many more passing by.

Tesla Chief Elon Musk stated on X that this was not an incident concerning Cybertruck in particular.

“We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck,” Musk posted on X.

Musk assured the public that all vehicle telemetry data showed no issues with the car prior to the Las Vegas explosion.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” Musk added, confirming that Tesla’s senior team was investigating the matter.

The explosion, as well as the New Orleans truck attack, have both drawn attention to a possible shared connection, as both Cybertrucks were rented through Turo, a car-sharing platform.

“Appears likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo, ” Musk wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Turo said in a statement that the individuals who rented the vehicles did not have criminal histories, adding that the company is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

The Las Vegas Police Department alongside the FBI are trying to establish the nature of the explosion. FBI Special Agent, Jeremy Schwartz, said they had identified the driver of the Tesla Cybertruck but are not releasing the name yet since the investigations are ongoing.

Since there is no established link to terrorism, the authorities fear that the Cybertruck exploding may have been a coordinated attack.

Las Vegas Metro Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill acknowledged at a press conference the “obvious questions” ignited by the explosion, given the nature of the vehicle and its location.

It remains unclear how the cybertrucks and deadly attacks are connected, with investigators refraining from ruling out any possible connections between the two events.

While the FBI hasn’t yet categorized this as a terror explosion, the whole incident questions the involvement of the Tesla Cybertruck. There are many controversial opinions about the Cybertruck exploding, but critics see the terrorism angle used by Musk as a way out for the supposedly error-free vehicle.

As the investigation unfolds, Musk will have to provide more detailed clarity if his most beloved car’s reputation is to remain unbroken and the real cause of the explosion is uncovered.
