On 10 July, Diligent Robotics appointed two key leadership positions, chief technology officer (CTO) and chief operating officer (COO), highlighting the company’s expansion into humanoid robots in the healthcare robotics branch.
With the help of approximately 100 Diligent Robotics Moxi robots assisting hospitals and pharmacies, the company moved from development to robust expansion.
Diligent Robotics’ new leaders have AI, robotics, and growth expertise in scaling complex operations, advisable as the startup prepares to scale its technology and footprint within the healthcare robotics market.
New Leadership to Drive AI and Operations
Diligent’s robots help with non-patient-facing tasks like the delivery of supplies, allowing medical professionals to focus on more patient care. Thomaz first came across Rashed Haq, chief technology officer, due to his strong AI and robotics background, particularly his work in autonomous vehicles on Cruise.
“We’ve purposely grown a little bit more slowly, I would say, over the last two or three years, really honing some of the operational efficiencies and getting ready to be in a position to scale more dramatically,” Diligent Robotics co-founder and CEO Andrea Thomaz on the timing of the leadership transitions.
Brugger, Cruise’s former COO, was also hired soon thereafter, with Thomaz viewing him as the ideal candidate to manage operations during this next phase of growth.
“Todd and Rashed worked so well together on Cruise,” she explained.
This approach places Diligent well in the medical robots market, where technology and seamless rollout are key.
Autonomous Technology
Joining Diligent was a natural step for Haq and Brugger, as Haq had stressed that autonomous cars are merely robots on wheels in disguise.
“But with Diligent, if you look at all the metrics, robots are actually in day-to-day use and have become integral parts of the companies that are using them,” Haq said.
Brugger noted how the operational challenges at Diligent remind him of those he confronted on Cruise. Diligent’s focus on hospitals humanoid robots is but one aspect of a larger trend affecting the autonomous medical robot market, where devices like Moxi are easing workload in health-care environments.
Founded in 2017 by Vivian and Thomaz Chu, Diligent’s Moxi robots already exist in more than 25 healthcare networks. More than $90 million in venture capital has been raised by the company from investors like Tiger Global, True Ventures, and Canaan Partners.
Diligent Robotics is ready to accelerate the future of hospital automation through AI in medical robotics to deliver more substantial solutions to healthcare professionals.
