Google to Integrate AI in Android-run Devices

Google's CEO announced the formation of a new team to integrate AI to all Android-based devices, to further push Alphabet’s AI.

Google’s CEO announced the formation of a new team to integrate AI to all Android-based devices, to further push Alphabet’s AI efforts in the race.

This team, ‘Platforms and Devices,’ will be chaired by Rick Osterloh, and its focus will be on overseeing Google’s Pixel products, Android, Chrome, ChromeOS, Photos, and others.

Meanwhile, Hiroshi Lockheimer, the previous head of Android, Chrome, and ChromeOS, will lead projects within Google and Alphabet.

According to Osterloh, the whole restructuring will be AI-driven, as he believes that bringing teams together could make it easier for a holistic innovation. He also cites the example of the Pixel camera, where deep knowledge of hardware systems from ISPs to sensors, in addition to all layers of the software stack was highly required.

Moreover, he pointed out that the integration of hardware, software, as well as AI demonstrated that the latter can completely make the user experience different.

Google’s focus on AI integration extends to its Tensor products, where close collaboration between hardware and software teams enables rapid improvement. Osterloh emphasizes that combining teams under a single leader and goal accelerates progress compared to working with two separate teams.

The reorganization at Google is aimed at inserting AI more carefully throughout its operations, making the transition from AI research to product development easier. This shift is visible in the way Google’s hardware division is now interacting with the broader Android ecosystem.

Google is increasing its Alphabet AI innovations, implying a more prominent role in shaping the future direction of Android and its associated products. The latest strategy defines Google’s commitment to leading AI integration and setting new standards within the tech industry.
