Global Capability Centers (GCCs) that are playing a role in changing India’s tech workspace, as tech giants expand in cities by hiring IT talents to build AI-first, cloud-based systems in house instead of traditional IT services.
India’s Hiring patterns are shifting as firms adjust how digital products are built and secured. GCCs are not just hiring faster than ITS services firms but altering the skills each company needs to stay competitive.
IT Talents Adapt to New Hiring Patterns
TeamLease digital found that GCCs are expanding headcounts by 18 to 27% a year, compared to the 4 to 6% IT firms achieve. The growth is secured in demand for IT talents that design AI-ready platforms rather than deliver short projects.
“This is the sharpest divergence we have seen. There is a 20% difference in hiring growth,” said Neeti Sharma, CEO of TeamLease Digital.
Sharma highlighted AI, cybersecurity, and cloud skills’ high demand, through specific IT talent solutions.
GCCs are hiring more DevOps, a technical movement to improve efficiency and speed of software delivery, and Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) engineers as part of sustainable IT infrastructure services strategies that support scalable data pipelines and real-time AI deployment.
To have fast cycles, companies are going for contract IT talent to serve cloud migration and automation tasks.
“Companies are prioritising in-house, high-skill, multi-disciplinary teams inside GCCs,” said Vikram Ahuja, cofounder of ANSR, highlighting the need for tighter IP control and embedded security.
The demand for IT talent acquisition consultant recruitment increased, as companies compete globally for engineers who understand both AI models and production systems.
Widening Talent Gap
In 2025, over 90 new GCCs were launched, with 150 expanding operations. Several GCCs are considered innovation hubs supported by professional IT services solutions rather than back-office delivery.
The game is the following. As GCCs scale, IT talents are being taken away far from traditional firms by offering traditional platforms, exposure to international teams and faster career growth through IT professional services roles.
“GCCs are the primary drivers of tech hiring in India,” said Kapil Joshi, CEO of Quess Corp, pointing to the rise of IT talent acquisition focused on advanced digital skills.
When companies seek to fill the gaps, they turn again to contract IT talent, specifically in cybersecurity operations. Through this movement, attention shifted towards wearing-down IT firms and pushed them to reassess their IT talent recruitment.
On the other hand, you can find firms that rely on managed IT service solutions to maintain engineers while cutting costs.
The demand for IT talents experts in threat detection and reliability continues to rise, backed by IT support and services.
“The talent market is signalling where the next decade of high-value digital work will be built,” said Jaspreet Singh of GT Bharat.
He underlines the long-term shift toward in-house, AI-driven engineering teams powered by IT talent acquisition consultant recruitment.
