Meta Connect Surprising Tech World Again with Latest Technologies
During the annual Meta Connect conference, social media and tech giant Meta, gave a sneak peek into its exciting lineup of new hardware and software innovations, underlining the significant investments it has made in AI across various platforms.
Meta Quest 3S Specs
Among the major announcements during Meta Connect conference included the Meta Quest 3S Headset for affordable and augmented reality (AR) glasses.
Meta Quest 3S release, is a slimmed-down edition of the hit Meta Quest 3, starting at $299.99 with the base model with 128GB storage. A powerful piece of hardware equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, Quest 3S features fast-switch LCD displays with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 and a refresh rate of 120Hz.
There is also Horizon, Meta’s virtual game, which this year receives several updates. Changes include photorealistic spaces now called hyperspace, better avatars, a new co-watching on YouTube in partnership with Google, among other novelties, such as new exclusive games like Batman: Arkham Shadow, and an updated system of travel among experiences seamless.
The 256GB model is available for $399.99. The premium Quest 3 model – which packs 512GB – has been priced down to $499.99.
This new offering makes Meta more competitive against Apple and its Vision Pro by allowing more users to enter the world of AR and VR at a cheaper cost.
Ray-Ban Smart Glasses
Meta also provided some updates regarding its Ray-Ban smart glasses that include features with improved natural language processing, giving users to activate voice commands without necessarily saying, “Hey Meta.”
The glasses are also designed to remember places, help interactions between modes, and even do live translations into many languages. Most interestingly, a partnership with “Be My Eyes” will provide guidance given through their smart glasses for visually impaired users.
Advanced Orion AR Glasses
One of the highlights of the conference was the unmasking of Orion AR glasses, which according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg are “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen.”
Unlike the traditional AR device, Orion AR employs holograms that directly overlay digital information on the user’s field of view, minimizing latency. These include glasses with integrated voice input, eye-tracking, hand gestures, and a unique wrist-based neural interface that detects finger movements while interacting with holographic content.
WhatsApp AI Celebrities Conversations
Meta Connect also revealed Meta’s AI chatbot audio and the voice of your favorite celebrities like Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, and John Cena.
During this presentation, Zuckerberg boasted about its capacity live by having a natural conversation with the WhatsApp AI, and this also included human-like interruptions.
The feature will be available in the US and other English-speaking countries across all of Meta’s social platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and messaging channel, WhatsApp.
AI-Powered Automatic Dubbing
Other highlights that were launched at Meta Connect include the dubbing tool, an automated tool that translates Reels into the languages preferred by the user on Facebook and Instagram. The tool uses the voice of the original speaker while matching up lip movements to the translation. The tool is still in its testing phase and there isn’t any clear idea when, or if this feature will be available to the public.
Announcements made during the Meta Connect conference tend to show a solid commitment to the enhancement of user experiences through newer hardware and AI technologies, making it an innovator in the AR and VR landscape.
