Two new cutting-edge features will be added to Twitter
It’s a good day for Twitter users around the world, as the micro-blogging site has begun testing a number of features, including edge-to-edge media in tweets on iOS as well as incorporating the option to remove a follower without blocking them.
According to The Verge, Twitter is testing a feature that will enhance user’s experience when it comes to the visuals. Twitter’s official account posted an example showcasing how the tech giant is aiming to achieve an Instagram-like experience for photos and videos.
If this update becomes available to all users beyond iOS, it’ll help target concerns over Twitter’s image cropping algorithms that have come under fire in the past for showing bias toward white faces.
The social media giant previously eliminated photo-cropping as a quick fix, but this new update will shift Twitter’s media to a more advanced level, even though it’ll have to sacrifice joke formats which will be lost in the process.
However, even before finalizing the feature, users have already started voicing their complaints.
“Searches for “New Twitter” bring up plenty of complaints, like that the new layout is headache-inducing and that edge-to-edge screenshots of tweets can confusingly look like an actual tweet,” as cited by The Verge.
The new privacy feature, on the other hand, is receiving a much better response.
The remove follower option is currently in its testing trial, but it seems to embody the “soft block” notion but as a more formal tool.
“We’re making it easier to be the curator of your own followers list. Now testing on web: remove a follower without blocking them,” Twitter wrote announcing the new feature.
The instructions laid out are simple, “to remove a follower, go to your profile and click “Followers”, then click the three-dot icon and select “Remove this follower.”
This official option is different than just blocking someone, as it’ll still allow users who have been removed to view your public tweets as well as direct message you.
“Twitter’s new remove follower feature is more of a remote unfollow button, a gentler way to create some distance between you and someone else on Twitter,” according to The Verge.
It’s unclear when will Twitter decide to roll out the new features, but for now, users should start gearing up for a cutting-edge experience they’re about to indulge in.
