Apple’s Liquid Glass: An Era for Device Design, Launched at WWDC 2025

WWDC 2025 unveiled a software redesign, "Liquid Glass," changing the visual experience across Apple products for better user interaction

On 9 June, Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2025) in California, unveiled a software redesign, “Liquid Glass,” changing the visual experience across Apple products with transparent elements and fluid animations, for a more pleasant user interaction.

It’s a silent yet powerful change, and even though it’s not accompanied by the usual claims of previous years that drove Apple’s WWDC 2025 rumors in the eyes of consumers, its marks a new beginning for Apple’s digital interface.

The Liquid Glass concept is a radical reconsideration of how users will connect with their devices. While the usual surprising reveals were absent, like the Vision Pro from 2023 or last year’s Apple Intelligence, a subtle yet extreme shift is coming.

Later this year, all of Apple’s beloved devices, from your iPhone to your Mac, will get a makeover. This isn’t just a modification; it’s a whole new design language. Liquid Glass is a significant moment for the WWDC 2025 announcement.

Apple’s Transparent Touch

Imagine your phone’s lock screen appearing as if it’s crafted from glass, with buttons transforming into sleek, fluid “glass pills” that slide effortlessly. Liquid Glass design is the first major visual overhaul for the iPhone’s operating system since 2013, promising delightful new animations, even when simply answering a phone call.

As Apple CEO Tim Cook said, the focus is on creating features and animations that are truly “delightful.” This new design focuses on transparent elements, buttons, slides, and other interactive parts to take on a clear, fluid appearance.

“Apple Silicon has become dramatically more powerful – enabling software, materials and experiences we once could only dream of,” said Apple software chief, Craig Federighi.

It’ll become apparent when you update your software to the new iOS, with beta testing rolling out this summer. Apple describes how their new chips provide advanced visual experience, patterned directly from the VisionOS software for their Vision Pro headset.

Apple’s Smart Interactions

During WWDC 2025, Apple quietly rolled out AI capabilities improvements, and while the highly anticipated, more personal Siri teased last year still needs more time to meet Apple’s “high quality bar,” according to Federighi, other AI advancements exist.

The changes came after many speculations regarding the state of WWDC AI Apple intelligence. One notable integration is with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, where now, when you take a screenshot on your iPhone, a new button will appear, allowing you to send the image to ChatGPT.

The intelligent helper can then summarize text within the image or even explain what is happening in a scene. Another exciting WWDC AI announcement is in language translation.

Envision being on a phone call with a person who speaks a foreign language; the phone application now interprets spoken phrases and speaks back using an AI voice to tell the other individual what they’re saying in their original language. Apple highlights that this feature runs the AI locally on your iPhone, without requiring an internet connection to a server. This is an important Apple WWDC AI announcement for real world use.

As the dust settles on WWDC 2025, it’s clear Apple’s vision isn’t about single, explosive reveals, but a cohesive and refined evolution. The “Liquid Glass” design signals a more flexible interaction with our technology.
