Microsoft’s co-founder envisions that artificial intelligence (AI) or the AI Revolution will serve as a pivotal moment for society in the next five years. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) notes that approximately 40% of jobs globally may be impacted by AI, despite worries that the technology could result in the loss of millions of jobs globally.

While acknowledging these worries, Bill Gates says that with every new technological wave, opportunities replace the initial fears, drawing comparisons to historical trends. Comparing it to the shift in agricultural productivity in 1900, Gates believes that the AI revolution will create new job categories, similar to how society flourished when transitioning away from predominantly agricultural work.

In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Gates anticipates AI streamlining various aspects of life, emphasizing its potential to assist doctors with paperwork, making such tasks more efficient. He envisions widespread access to AI through existing devices like phones and PCs, connected via the internet.

Highlighting the advancements in OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Gates describes its capabilities as “dramatic,” envisioning it as a white-collar worker aiding with tasks such as tutoring, providing health advice, code writing, and technical support. Gates, a major shareholder in Microsoft, sees the integration of AI in healthcare and education as a fantastic opportunity.

Addressing the concerns raised by the IMF about AI potentially deepening inequality, Gates emphasizes the Gates Foundation’s goal of minimizing the delay in delivering benefits to people in poor countries compared to wealthier nations.

At $140 billion, Gates is the fourth richest person in the world. He is still determined to donate a large portion of his wealth, intending to give $9 billion a year by 2026. Gates and his ex-wife have pledged to contribute to the foundation they established 20 years ago, with the aim of making a substantial impact on organizations receiving their philanthropic support. Gates envisions having given away his entire fortune within the next 20 years.
