On Wednesday, OpenAI launched its ChatGPT on WhatsApp, for users to access AI features directly via Meta’s messaging platform.  

To use ChatGPT on WhatsApp, users can add the number 1 (800) 242-8478 to their contacts. From there, you can use ChatGPT through text-based format. 

How to Use ChatGPT on WhatsApp 

To get ChatGPT on WhatsApp, users have limited text-only interactions, excluding advanced features like visual or voice input, using OpenAI’s o1-mini model for conversational AI tasks. The AI company also announced that it is working on a user authentication feature, though no timeline has been provided. 

Alongside ChatGPT on WhatsApp, OpenAI is introducing a new concept, “ChatGPT hotline” in the US, accessible toll-free number at 1 (800) 242-8478, to access AI chatbot from any phone. Users get 15 minutes of ChatGPT free access per call, with options to log in for more time. 

The hotline expands ChatGPT access for users without consistent smartphone or internet access. OpenAI’s efforts are to widen its offerings to make AI tools available to a broader audience.  

“We’re only just getting started on making ChatGPT more accessible to everyone,” said Kevin Weil, OpenAI’s chief product officer, during the company’s most recent 12 Days of OpenAI livestream. 

With new launches like ChatGPT Search for free users and the Spra video generation, ChatGPT is consistent in improving its features.
