What are the Criteria of NASA Lunar Backpack?

The Artemis moon landing is about NASA landing the first person of color and the first woman on the Moon, using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface.

“We will cooperate with international and commercial partners and have the first long-term presence on the Moon. Then, we will take advantage of what we learn about the Moon to take the next giant leap: sending the first astronauts to Mars,” the project added.

According to the website, the mission is to return to the Moon for economic benefits, scientific discovery, and inspiration for a new generation of explorers: the Artemis Generation.

We will establish a global alliance and explore deep space for the benefit of all while maintaining American leadership in exploration.

From a technological perspective, it would be hoped that sending a human-crewed lunar mission should be far easier than in 1969. Today’s smartphones have more computational power than was required for the Apollo missions.

The engineering challenges associated with a lunar landing, safe space flight and safe return are no less daunting than fifty years ago. In order to make future lunar expeditions easier, NASA submitted plans for the Gateway station, which would orbit the moon similarly to how the International Space Station (ISS) orbits the earth.

NASA’ lunar backpack’

As such, the NASA’ lunar backpack’ will allow Artemis astronauts to examine the Moon. As Artemis astronauts walk on the Moon, these NASA backpacks will chronicle lunar features in context.

A new high-tech backpack will assist their mapping as they step into the strange parallel with future Artemis astronauts exploring the Moon.

Dr. Michael Zanetti, a planetary scientist who leads the KNaCK project at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama and Huntsville, described the “lunar backpack” as a superpowered version of laser range finders.

This technology is employed by the highly sensitive proximity alarms or surveyors that support smart cars to avoid collisions.

“A sensor is a surveying tool for science mapping and navigation, can give them a rich scientific context and create ultra-high-resolution 3D maps at centimeter-level precision,” Zanetti said.

“It will also help secure the safety of rover vehicles and astronauts in a GPS-denied environment like Moon, identifying actual distances to far-off landmarks and showing explorers in real-time how far they’ve come and how far is left to go to reach their destination.”

It is worth mentioning that NASA launched a spacecraft in November of last year on a mission to crash into an asteroid and test whether it would be possible to knock a speeding space rock off course if one were to threaten Earth.

In addition, NASA’s Perseverance rover landed on February 2021 on Mars after traveling 293 million miles (472 million kilometers) and entering the Red Planet’s stratosphere at supersonic speed, only slowing in the final minutes of the 203-day journey.

The store is called “Official NASA Gear” and is owned and managed by the NASA Ames Exchange, a subsidiary of the U.S. Government, located at NASA Ames Research Center in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley.

Official NASA Gear is a brand made to sustain NASA employees, so 100 percent of the proceeds from all Official NASA Gear go directly to NASA employees in welfare, morale, and recreation (MWR) activities.

A new sheriff is in orbit after 31 breathtaking years of space exploration with the Hubble Telescope,

The moon surface map is essential because it enables stabilizing our planet’s moderate and wobbling climate.

The Moon’s distance from Earth is about 240,000 miles (385,000km). The Moon has a fragile atmosphere called an exosphere. The Moon’s surface is cratered and pitted from comet and asteroid impacts.

Summary

The plans to go and explore the Moon have been present for a long time now in order to comprehend the nature of Earth’s “satellite” and whether or not we can benefit from its surface and its components. This task is done using the assistance of NASA Lunar Backpack in parallel with the Artemis moon landing mission will make it easier to achieve that goal.

Therefore, in collaboration with other space agencies, such as the Russian one, NASA worked to reach results to benefit humankind with technologies and knowledge during the past few years.
