Musk’s X Got Hit by Cyberattack and He Can’t Tweet Even About It!

March 12, Elon Musk attributed a global X platform outage to a “massive cyber-attack,” causing service disruptions throughout the day.

On March 12, Elon Musk attributed a global X platform outage to a “massive cyber-attack,” causing intermittent service disruptions throughout the day, with Musk suggesting the attack involved key resources, potentially orchestrated by a large group or nation-state.

When users worldwide report outage on X platform, and fail to post and load other posts, that means the severity is significant, echoing a similar Meta outage on March 5, 2024, which Musk had previously tweeted about it. It all goes to show that what goes around comes around a year and 7 days later.

In 2025, the universe is balancing its karmic ledger with a heavy hand for the richest man in the world. First, Musk’s tesla stock took a nosedive – and still is – and now, this latest cyberattack twist feels like fate’s war of saying, “Take it easy Musk, but let’s keep it interesting for the world’s theater.”

“We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources,” Musk posted, “Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”

X Platform Outage Timeline

Downdetector, an outage monitoring site, recorded thousands of outage reports, with the X platform downtime starting at 5:45 AM, subsiding for a couple of hours, the X cyberattack surged again by midday, targeting the company’s mobile application.

Failed tweets displayed an error message: “Something went wrong,” prompting users to reload the page.

World’s richest man Elon Musk provided no evidence to justify his claims. His response came to a crypto influencer, who had speculated that the X outage was part of broader resistance towards Musk’s ventures. There was a protest against his “Department of Government Efficiency” initiative and the destruction of Tesla dealerships in the previous week.

What About Freedom of Speech?

The cyberattack on X raises bigger questions about the role of platforms like X in global communication. As one of the primary sites for political analysis, activism, and real time news sharing, its vulnerability to cyberattack presents a concerning question, “are citizens’ voices trying to be silenced?”

X has been a fundamental platform for reporters, activists, and users sharing thoughts on global and political events, often bypassing traditional media. If the social media platform X back up after global outage wasn’t available, then users would feel silenced, threatening their freedom of expression.  Whether the X platform outage was intentional or not, users lacked an alternative to voice their concerns, political views, and opinions.

Elon, work harder please, the whole world is relying on you to keep their voices heard.
