Apple is actively working on its next innovative robotics project, robots capable of autonomous operation, according to Bloomberg.

The company’s dive into personal robotics aims to maintain its leading position in the market and discover fresh new revenue resources after giving up on its electric vehicle (EV) project.

Earlier reports suggested that Apple could have priced its EV car at $100.000, indicating significant revenue potential. However, with the EV car project canceled, the company is shifting its focus towards the Vision Pro headset, as well as new home products like a home hub device with an iPad-like display.

Despite being in the early stages, Apple has started a mobile robot that can follow users around the home without the need for their intervention. The company has also created a tabletop device based on robotics that can move the screen. This could potentially enhance video call experiences by mimicking head movements and locking into one person in the group.

According to the report, the Apple Home devices team is leading the development of navigation algorithms for these robot projects to enable their autonomous movement. At least one of the engineers on this project was originally part of the EV team.

Unlike smartphones, where the demand is high, the tech giant is concerned about whether consumers would have the will to pay a premium for its proposed robots. As a result, executives are divided on whether to proceed or not with these projects.

The US-based company’s plans for the future are flexible, so it may even give up on the robotics projects if they do not align with its revenue objectives. Meanwhile, it continues to explore product categories that promise significant revenue growth opportunities.
