Trump’s Secret Weapon, Musk, Runs Riot on European Centralist Leaders
On January 10, Elon Musk and MAGA with Trump did not shy away from openly amplifying their far-right narratives in Europe, giving themselves the power to seize political dynamics and territories, against the centrist leadership across the European continent.
In this case, it’s not China or Russia interfering with the US NATO allies, it’s the US wants the European cake, and to eat it too.
European political dynamics took a turn as US figures like Elon Musk and the MAGA with Trump movement openly amplified far-right narratives across the continent.
Trump’s MAGA movement and high-profile Americans is bringing about new, unparalleled changes to Europe’s political landscape. Unlike traditional covert interference, Trump’s Make American Great Again (MAGA) movement and tech billionaire Elon Musk’s political interference in Europe are not only overt, but highly public, taking advantage of social media platforms and endorsements.
Musk and Trump’s MAGA movement strategy’s eroded fringe parties trust in centrist leaders as it openly challenged European democracies established after World War II.
The Tesla CEO’s controversial support for Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) and critiques of the President-elect’s NATO viewpoint established to European leaders that the MAGA movement has become a problem for Trump.
For Europe, this will be a defining turning point for the continent’s leaders, testing its resilience against external, American, political interferences.
Down with the Centralist European Establishments
After Musk’s infamous Twitter $44 billion acquisition, now knows as X, the micro-blogging platform’s influence manifested a whole new direction for the MAGA with Trump movement voices in European politics.
With Musk’s help, now Europe faces an amplification of far-right narratives, further magnified on X, that bluntly attack Europe’s current centrist leadership.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) movement was long shunned by the current German centralist party due to its tainted affiliations to neo-Nazis. For Musk, German is “teetering on the brink of economic and cultural collapse,” and the “AfD is the last spark of home” for the country.
The MAGA movement rhetoric has further fueled these shifts as Musk called for a vote for AfD in Germany, after neo-Nazi accounts were reposted by Musk himself, AfD candidates catapulted into mainstream debates.
Musk’s influence campaign through the weaponization of his X (FKA Twitter) platform, along with his own recent political actions, is not the instigator, but rather the corroborator of the chaos Europe is enduring. Musk’s X, and his ownership of the platform, have become the fuel thrown to the fire.
Europeans, specifically British and Germans, and possible French in the future, are fuming with anger at their political establishments, but that, however, is “not being orchestrated by Trump or Musk,” said Matthrew Goodwin, a conservative author.
“It helps the AfD that he is getting them attention,” added Goodwin, “but the underlying driver of this is policy decisions made over the past decade.”
In the UK, the tech billionaire attacked the Labour leader, and current Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, by excavating old scandals and calling for public action against his government. A report, “Musk’s $100 million Gamble: Backing Farage’s Reform Party to Reshape UK Politics,” a move that would potentially upend political dynamics in the country.

Trump and the MAGA Movement and European Politics
Donald Trump influence is stretching the dominance and reach of MAGA in Europe. Ahead of his return to the White House, Trump threatened current NATO allies’ leaders, supporting far-right leaders. His close ties with Musk and other influential figures are viewed as part of a broader strategy to destabilize European centrist governments.
The behavior of Musk and Trump may appear random, but they reflect very real grievances among European voters: anxiety over immigration, economic stagnation. Trump considering replacing FBI director with MAGA loyalists further highlights the alignment of these grievances with broader political maneuvers. “Both the Kremlin and the forces around Musk want to sow chaos in Europe and undermine liberal democratic elites,” said Thorsten Benner, director of the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin.
Looking Ahead for the MAGA Trump Movement
Now, Europe finds itself facing a new battle defending its political institutions against intervention. In country after country, hard-right movements gain momentum and enjoy new helpers like Musk where trust has disintegrated into mainstream parties. What does Donald Trump mean with MAGA? The MAGA with Trump return onto the world scene bodes a repetition of the policy labeled “America First,” placing American interests well ahead of European stability.
The coming years will test Europe’s resilience against external forces that are no longer covert but openly seeking to reshape the continent’s political future, with the MAGA movement to strengthen even without Trump at helm further signaling the global ripple effects of such ideological shifts.
