MoU Between COAI and GSMA to Advance Mobile Telecommunications in India

COAI and GSMA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday to improve mobile telecommunications in India. They announced their unification once again to work and collaborate on areas of mutual interest. 

As such, COAI is the industry association representing leading Internet, Telecom, and Technology and digital services companies in India. GSMA is a global organization unifying the mobile ecosystem to develop, discover and deliver innovation foundational to positive business environments and societal change. 

Indian news services reported that DG of COAI, SP Kochhar, Julian Gorman, GSMA, and Head of APAC signed the MoU this week in Barcelona. It published a statement saying: “COAI and GSMA have a mutual objective to support the advancement of products, world-class mobile infrastructure, and services, in addition to offering the benefits of affordable and innovative  mobile communication services to the people of India.”   

On his part, COAI, which represents the three big mobile operators in India, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea, said it would collaborate with GSMA on “areas of mutual interest.” 

It is worth mentioning that the move is taken when users need robust mobile experiences and the availability of mobile broadband. It is significant when it comes to driving forces and emerging technologies working together with types of organizations worldwide. 

For his part, Lt. Gen Dr. SP Kochhar, Director General, COAI, said, “We are excited to enter into this strategic partnership with GSMA. This partnership will allow us to have a standard policy with discussions to move forward with mobile telecommunications contribution in India and advance the profile of the mobile network operators and the wider mobile ecosystem as an essential body for achieving the Digital India Vision through various workshops, thought leadership seminars, conferences, and meetings.” 

Commenting on the development, Mr. Julian Gorman, Head of APAC, GSMA, further added, “This MoU reaffirms the long-standing partnership between GSMA and COAI. We will help achieve the Digital India vision by working together and leveraging each of our advantages with joint advocacy.
