Apple’s Passwords App for Enhanced Security
Apple is planning to unveil a new app dubbed Apple Password, aiming at assisting users to manage their log in information, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Seamless Syncing and Labeled Logins
Apple users can already save their passwords on multiple devices, such as iPhones, iPads, as well as the Vision Pro, using the iCloud Keychain. The Apple Password app will maintain the same system of synchronization, with the introduction of a more organized approach, putting the login options in categories, including accounts, Wi-Fi networks, and passkeys.
The report also mentions that this new app will support Windows, without disclosing any information on whether it will extend to Android devices.
Another Layer of Security
The new app is expected to be launched alongside iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15. As per Bloomberg, Apple Password will provide features that are similar to those used in the popular password managers, such as LastPass and 1Password, providing users with the ability to generate and securely store passwords.
In addition to its essential features, the Passwords app will include capabilities to autofill usernames and passwords, also supporting the creation of authentication codes, which is similar to services provided by Google Authenticator.
The app is expected to be unveiled during the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) taking place in June 10 of this year, where Apple is set make significant announcements, especially the long-awaited AI-driven features for the iPhone in the iOS 18 software.
