Faster Internet speed boosts Vodafone Idea’s status over Oct-Dec last year

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has the fastest 4G obtain and add speeds for the October -December interval of last year, in comparison with rivals Bharti and Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio), according to speed testing platform Ookla.

This outcome comes when the three private telcos are competing to get customers on 4G networks. The faster speed will also ensure high tariff customers, especially postpaid ones remain on Vi.

“Such external validation for our voice and data services, is a strong testimony of our efforts to strengthen network experience for our customers, who are now more reliant on telecom connectivity for their work, education and all other aspects of life,” Ravinder Takkar, MD & CEO, Vodafone Idea said.

“I am confident that our robust network built on many principles of 5G architecture, and service offerings designed for the new age Digital Indians, will enable people and businesses to stay ahead and thrive,” he added.

According to Statista, Internet penetration rate in India went up to nearly 50 percent in 2020, from just around four percent in 2007. “Around half of the population of 1.37 billion people had access to the Internet in 2020. This also ranked the country second in the world in terms of active internet users.”

This makes Vi the only telco delivering fastest speed consistently over a six month period on a pan-India basis, according to Ookla.

GIGAnet from Vi has been verified as the fastest 4G network for average download speeds in 16 Indian states, according to the statement from the telco.
