The technology sector finds itself engaged in combat once more. Large-scale conflicts are catastrophic events for the nations and people involved. They also have a significant impact on global security by altering how the world prepares for conflict. And due to gross oversight, surveillance technology fueled projects and wars that no one could afford. One war that the world was not prepared for was the Israeli-Palestinian war.
It all began on the 7th of October 2023. The beginning of a new era in the use of technology through military disasters. The use of technology in the Palestinian-Israeli war opened doors to how technology can be a curse to those who lead in it. During the conflict, there was a malfunction in Israel’s Iron Dome anti-rocket system, resulting in an interceptor missile falling back over Tel Aviv, collapsing into homes and a hospital, and leading to a fiery explosion. In this case, the malfunction was a disaster for those who launched it.
The occupied Palestinian territory is now an experimental project, a land being used as a testing ground for cutting-edge weapons and surveillance technology with no oversight. The Israeli military-industrial complex exports these devices to countries around the world. Israel’s technology has become a global leader in conflicts worldwide, from powerful tools like the Pegasus software, which was used to hack the phones of high-profile individuals such as Amazon’s founder, Jeff Bezos, and Jamal Khashoggi, to selling drones to the European Union for monitoring people attempting to cross the Mediterranean.
The tech used in this war led to the loss of lives of over 8,000 children in Gaza, over 1,000 families, and the destruction of homes. Tech can be used to protect, defend, and save the lives of a nation but let us not allow it to destroy other nations.
