Trump Election Fraud Investigation: Last Nail in the Coffin?
In the course of her election fraud investigation, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis came into possession of incriminating evidence connecting Trump’s legal team to the 2021 Coffee County voting system breach, as revealed in a CNN report.
- Text messages expose that Trump’s legal team, including Rudy Giuliani, received a “written invitation” to access the voting machines.
- The texts suggest that prominent Trump allies were aware of the invitation and discussed the prospect of gaining “voluntary access” during a December 2020 White House meeting.
As a result of her election fraud investigation, Fulton County District Attorney (DA) Fani Willis is reportedly in possession of text messages and emails connecting members of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s legal team to the 2021 Coffee County voting system breach, according to a CNN report.
The election fraud investigation led by Willis originally stemmed from a call between Trump and Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, where Trump sought to overturn the 2020 election results. The probe expanded to include the Coffee County breach after Willis became aware of it in August 2022. The breach involved a team from Sullivan Strickler, hired by Trump’s attorney Sidney Powell, accessing and copying data from the voting machines.
The text messages reveal that members of Trump’s legal team, including Rudy Giuliani, received a “written invitation” to access the voting machines. In fact, a local elections official sent the invitation, authored by Misty Hampton, a former Coffee County elections official, to Trump’s lawyers six days ahead of the breach.
According to the report, the texts indicate that key Trump allies were aware of the invitation and discussed the possibility of gaining “voluntary access” to the voting machines during a White House meeting on the 18th of December 2020. The breach, referred to as “unauthorized access” by the Georgia Secretary of State’s office, is deemed a violation of state law. Usually, any software changes to voting systems require permission from the Secretary of State.
Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello, denied his client’s involvement in the breach, stating that “Rudy Giuliani had nothing to do with this. You can’t attach Rudy Giuliani to Sidney Powell’s crackpot idea.” However, throughout the texts, people referred to former New York Mayor Giuliani as “the Mayor.” In fact, a Sullivan Strickler employee texted to a group chat with other colleagues, “Just landed back in DC with the Mayor huge things starting to come together!”
As Willis prepares to seek indictments against more than a dozen individuals for their alleged roles, Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to criticize her and the election fraud investigation. If indicted and convicted, Trump’s potential inability to self-pardon due to the state-level nature of the alleged crime could further complicate his legal situation.
Willis is expected to present her case before a grand jury next week and seek charges against over a dozen individuals as part of her ongoing election fraud investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
