Bot Planting in the GCC (No That Isn’t a Spelling Mistake)

At GITEX 2023, a robot called agricultural visionary was introduced by the UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). This farm bot is designed to plant tree saplings in an effective and precise manner.

A super-fast TDRA arm

Try to catch up on the farm bot in this video.

A white stiff hand is moving in a circular motion putting the plant in front of the audience, who are astonishingly capturing photos and videos of it. I bet it was THAT fast that it needed some changes in the shutter speed, it’s an adjustment in the settings of the camera to make the picture cleaner and clearer.

Anyhow, this farm bot “can monitor soil conditions and optimize resource utilisation.” –Indiatimes

With a glimpse of an eye, it finalizes the work in plantations, by minimizing the efforts put on by the humans.

A much greener world?!

With the help of this bot, we could plant trees at the aforementioned rate, it allows to restore forests quickly and efficiently. It’s more feasible to plant trees on a bigger scale since planting trees by hand is time-consuming. On top of that, the white bot can choose the best possible locations for the trees to be planted with the best chances of living longer and in an environmentally friendly way.

Flashforward to combating environmental challenges

Flashback to Saudi Arabia’s Neom launch in 2022 for a ‘regreening’ initiative to “rehabilitate at least 1.5 million hectares of land and return 100 million native trees, shrubs and grasses by 2030 to aid the restoration of degraded land and repair of wildlife habitats.” –Neom

With both GCC countries, the KSA and UAE aligning their missions and visions to combat environmental challenges and to better the future of the environment is a green flag, especially from desert kind of countries. With the help of AI technology, everything can be changed for (good).

There are always two sides for such technologies, the farm bot can change the agricultural equation, but we must shed light on some potential challenges for this bot. There should be developed strategies to ensure that the planted trees are well-cared of so that they have a good chance of living and to make sure that the bot is logically affordable and reliable.

No chance that this futuristic robot is going to change our breathing process for ever.

More O2 in our lungs! So, on 3 guys:
